Yuba Sutter Rainbow Montessori School
"Capture the Joy in Learning"

About Our School Environment

The Montessori philosophy is an educational method that encourages the enrichment of the "whole child."  The method reinforces a child's thinking skills and prepares the child for life's challenges.

At Yuba Sutter Rainbow Montessori School we do follow the Montessori principle, but I have incorporated my own educational policies into the classroom.  We feel that the best teaching method is one that is developed for each individual classroom.

We use Montessori materials in the classroom, learning tools designed to allow children to work independently.  Mistakes are obvious and the child can self correct them. However, we also display the children's artwork, put up seasonal decorations, have colorful walls and displays and bright playground equipment, which goes against the Montessori belief that such embellishments aren't needed.  This combination of the Montessori method and traditional preschool attributes has shown the best results over the course of my career.

The differences and respect that each family brings into our school are invaluable.  We feel that it is important to work together to meet your family's needs.  We respect, care, and provide a loving environment for your child/children and encourage learning at our Montessori School.

The Rainbow Montessori School was founded in 1972.  We have consistently had classes ranging in size from 20 to 40 students.  We limit our enrollment to 40 students, allowing a maximum of 20 children per classroom.  We are licensed by the State of California (License No. 515403518).

I have owned and operated the Yuba Sutter Rainbow Montessori School in several locations in Yuba City for 35 years now.  It has been my great pleasure to have been involved in the lives of so many families and to have influenced so many children in the last several decades.

I have been helping with the administration at Rainbow Montessori for the last several years and love to see the interaction between the staff and families.  It's wonderful to see the expressions on the faces of the children when they learn something new.

From my first volunteer day at my son's preschool, I knew I had found my calling.  I love to work with children.  Everyday is a new adventure, a chance to not only teach but learn as well.  I began working at Rainbow Montessori in 2000.  It is a pleasure to have Cheryl as my mentor, friend and employer.  I think I get nearly as excited as the children when she demonstrates how to use the Montessori equipment or explains the theory behind a task.  My major is in Early Childhood Education.  I have taken almost every ECE class Yuba College has to offer and would eventually like to obtain my Bachelor's Degree in Child Development.
